Description

6 pack of multi coloured Christmas light failry bulbs for 12 light mains operated sets.

The lamp style is a conical or tulip lamp with a 20V 3W rating. This lamp was commonly used in Pifco, Lyvia, Woolworths, Noma, Dencon and many more light sets.

It doesn't matter what brand your lights are, as long as the specified replacement is a 20V 3W type with an E10 thread. The E10 thread type relates to the diameter of the thread crests, i.e. the distance between the crest of threads on each side of the lamp.

The E10 lamp is MES which means Miniature Edison Screw.

Some lamps have a 12mm diameter thread so be careful that you measure your lamps before ordering. Many of the older 12 light sets use this E10 lamp which is now quite a difficult lamp to source.

Let's look at the lamp specifications:

  • Lamp Type: Incandescent Tulip / Conical Lamp
  • Lamp Height: 49mm
  • Lamp Width: 18mm
  • Colour: 6 Coloured Pack Supplied
  • Blue Is A Solid Colour, Others Are Semi Transparent
  • Lamp Voltage: 20V AC or DC
  • Lamp Power: 3W
  • Lamp Current: Typically 0.15A, 150mA
  • Thread Size: E10 MES - 10mm Diameter
  • Pack Size: 6 Lamps Supplied

Let's see what you get in the pack:

  • 1 X Red Lamp (Semi Transparent)
  • 1 X Blue Lamp (Solid Colour)
  • 1 X Green Lamp (Semi Transparent)
  • 1 X Amber Lamp (Semi Transparent)
  • 1 X Yellow Lamp (Semi Transparent)
  • 1 X Purple Lamp (Semi Transparent)

Here's some useful lamp advice. When the lamps are in service keep your eye on them as this lamp like the ones you already have normally fail to a short circuit. In a series light set this keeps all the other lamps on but it means that the 20V dropped across the failed lamp is divided amongst all the others. The more that fail then the more strain is on the others so keep your eyes peeled for lamps that are out and get them changed quickly.

This lamp has a 10mm diameter thread, please check your size before ordering. When measuring with a ruler the E10 lamps have a thread diameter which appears to be around 8-9mm whilst 12mm lamps lamps appear to have a thread diameter of around 10-11mm.

    Saved Christmas!

Posted by Brian Hughes on 30th Dec 2015

Arrived quickly and they all worked. I only needed one to revive my 1954 set of lights but I now have some spares....
