2 x Stereo 1/4 Inch 6.35mm Chassis Mount Switched Jack Socket, Headphone Socket

​2 x Stereo 1/4" / 6.35mm stereo jack sockets for microphone and headphone connectivity.

The sockets are switched types which make them ideal for applications where loudspeakers should be disconnected when a jack plug is inserted. Conventional use is also possible by ignoring the switched connections.

The pin configuration is as follows:

• Pin 1 - Not Connected
  
• Pin 2 - Left Channel Switch, Normally Closed
  
• Pin 3 - Left Channel Switch, Normally Closed
• Pin 4 - Left Audio In
  
• Pin 5 - Not Connected
  
• Pin 6 - Right Channel Switch, Normally Closed
• Pin 7 - Right Channel Switch, Normally Closed
  
• Pin 8 - Right Audio In
• Tag - Ground Connection
  

For normal operation without a switching function pins 4 and 8 should be connected to the left and right channel audio feed. The ground should be connected to the tag.

There are two independent normally closed switches built into the the jack socket that open when a jack plug is inserted. They do not connect to any of the jack connections. Pins 2 and 3 are for the left switch whilst pins 6 and 7 form the right switch.

The switches can be used as a control signal for an amplifier to mute loudspeakers or can be used directly to mute loudspeakers if the speaker signal is passed to the jack socket on pins 4 and 8. In this case two small wire loops will needed between pins 3 and 4 and another between pins 7 and 8. The speaker output should then be connected to pins 2 and 6. In this configuration the speaker circuit is broken when a jack plug is inserted. The tag on the jack body is the ground connection.

The socket dimensions are 17mm x 17mm x 34mm

A 9mm mounting hole is required for mounting this socket and a fixing nut is supplied.
